The 7th Primafamed workshop, jointly organised by our Division's EuropeAid project team and the University of Ghent, was funded by the EuropeAid project (Strengthening primary care through primary care doctors and family physicians). The conference focused on strengthening primary care research in Africa and was attended by delegates from across the African continent. Day 1: Chronic care in the African context
1. Prof Jan de Maeseneer (Belgium) and Dr Akye Essuman (Ghana) on The challenge of dealing with multimorbidity in chronic care.
2. Prof Naomi (Dinky) Levitt (South Africa) on Chronic Disease Initiative for Africa and addressing non-communicable diseases.
Day 2: Presentations on innovative strategies addressing the chronic care issue
3. Dr Roberta Lamptey (Ghana) on Establishing a chronic care clinic at a PC facilities.
4. Dr Paulo Pires (Mozambique) on Innovative strategies for addressing the chronic care issue in Africa.
5. Dr Allen Steele-Dadzie (Ghana) on Management of asthma at the Family Medicine department, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
6. Dr Lushiku Nkombua (South Africa) on Family Medicine and Chronic Disease Forum, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
7. Dr Edwina Opare-Lokko (Ghana) on Developing a model palliative care service and the Korle-Bu experience.
Day 3: The EuropeAid project
8. Prof Bob Mash (South Africa) on Strengthening Primary Health Care through Primary Care Doctors and Family Physicians - key lessons so far
